CCIEE Roundtable
Peter Drysdale and Shiro Armstrong led a delegation from the East Asian Bureau of Economic Research (EABER) to Shanghai and Beijing for face-to-face exchanges with their counterparts in China, marking a resumption of In-person engagements after the COVID-19 pandemic. The delegation received a warm welcome and engaged in high-level meetings with esteemed institutions and organizations.
The delegation had productive meetings with influential think tanks, including the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) and the China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE). They also had the opportunity to engage with representatives from prominent publications such as Caixin, as well as electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers and officials from the Australian embassy.
In addition, the delegation held meaningful discussions with renowned academic institutions, including Peking University, Tsinghua University, and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, further strengthening ties and fostering collaboration in the academic sphere.
During their visit, the delegation met with with Yi Gang, the Governor of the People’s Bank of China, to discuss sustainable investment, financial reform, and other important matters. They also had a meeting with Fu Ying, former Ambassador to Australia and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as the international division of the Central Party School of the Communist Party of China, which has an exchange arrangement with the Australian National University (ANU).
